The weather of Northern Thailand, including Chiang Mai, differs from the traditional divisions of spring, summer, autumn and winter. Instead, the region has three distinct seasons: the cool season, the hot season and the rainy season. Chiang Mai is known as the 'cool capital', and in comparison to the sweaty heat of Bangkok, the climate is far more pleasant year round.

In practice El Nino is a bad boy, his twin sister El nina is no better, they're messing up with our weather... well they have an excuse, we feed them with carbon dyoxide, but still, it is becoming more difficult to predict the weather within these well defined periods. Over the last few years it has been raining in December and during a big part of May when it shouldn’t have.
